Commercial vehicle group Sherwood Truck and Van appoints new workshop manager and workshop controller
Commercial vehicle group Sherwood Truck & Van Ltd has appointed Darren Hill as its new workshop manager at its headquarters at Blackwell, near Alfreton.
Darren, who lives in Nottingham, has 28 years of motor trade experience, spending 14 years with a Ford main dealer and 14 years with an Iveco dealer before joining Sherwood Truck & Van, which also has dealership sites at Lenton in Nottingham, at Etruria, Stoke-on-Trent, and in Highfield Lane, Sheffield.
Taking over the running of the workshop and leading a 16-strong team of technicians, he is being supported by workshop controller Philip Pastuszka, 44, who has worked in the motor trade since he was 16 and who also recently joined Sherwood Truck & Van.
Philip, from Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, began his career working for a waste disposal company with a fleet of trucks and other vehicles where he qualified as a technician. He then spent several years with a car dealership before making the move back to trucks.
Sherwood Truck & Van recently became part of the Guest Group. Regional director responsible for the four Sherwood locations, Helen Waterfall, said: “I am delighted to welcome Darren and Philip.
“They bring a wealth of motor trade experience to our business and I know they, and their team, will ensure the workshop runs efficiently and to schedule and continues to provide excellent service to our customers.”
Darren has replaced Ryan Hemp, who has moved to pastures new.
The acquisition of Sherwood by Ian Guest Holdings confirmed the West-Bromwich-based dealer group’s position as one of the largest independently owned commercial vehicle dealers and the single largest Iveco distributor in the UK.
The Guest Group now covers an area of responsibility for Iveco, which includes the West Midlands, North Wales, Cambridgeshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire and South Yorkshire. Its network includes 12 full service Iveco dealerships, supported by local agreements with an additional eight authorised Iveco repairers.
Sherwood is a leading supplier of new and used commercial vehicles, established in 1978. The company also maintains, services and repairs commercial vehicles across Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire, Staffordshire and most of Cheshire.
It is now best known as a dealership for Iveco trucks and vans – the second largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles in Europe.
Sherwood prides itself on its service pedigree with a stock holding of more than 15,000 lines, a fully equipped accident repair centre and 24-hour roadside support.

The leading bed, bedding and bedroom furniture producer, which has won a string of awards for its environmental commitments, is adding the new Iveco EcoDaily 35C14 chassis cabs to its delivery fleet.

“As well as being an excellent vehicle, the EcoDaily is at the forefront of sustainability and economy. It is ideally suited to the company’s commitment to the environment.”

It is now best known as a dealership for Iveco trucks and vans – the second largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles in Europe.
Sherwood, part of the Guest Motors Group of Companies, prides itself on its service pedigree with a stock holding of more than 15,000 lines, a fully equipped accident repair centre and 24-hour roadside support.
Ethical and environmentally friendly practices are at the heart of everything Warren Evans does.
The company has been the Sunday Times’ Best Green Company three years running, Best Local Retailer in the 2008 and 2009 Observer Ethical Awards and Premier Award winners in the prestigious BCE (Business Commitment to the Environment) Environmental Leadership Awards.
Founder Warren Evans believes passionately that caring for the environment is compatible with running a healthy business and this applies to everything the Walthamstow-based company does – including its deliveries.
Fleet manager Phil Young said: “We’re long-time Iveco Daily users but this is the first time we’ve sourced our vehicles from Sherwood Truck & Van.
“They come highly recommended and have a strong reputation with others in our industry. We like what we have heard, and we have been led to expect the very highest levels of support, across the board.”
Launched last year, the EcoDaily is certified to EEV (Enhanced Environmentally friendly Vehicle) standards. These far exceed the minimum Euro 5 emission standards demanded by law.
As well as being cleaner and more than 90% recyclable, the EcoDaily is designed to offer high levels of fuel economy
“Then there’s the driver,” said Mr Young. “Operating in and around London can be stressful at the best of times so we specified a range of innovations designed to minimise that stress.
“Iveco’s AGile automated transmission makes them easier to drive. The Electronic Stability Program minimises braking distances and reduces the risk of skidding.
“Anti-lock braking and Electronic Brake Distribution maximises braking effectiveness and features such as air bags, reversing alarms and cameras maximise driver and bystander safety.”
The EcoDaily vehicles are equipped with lightweight bodies and can take a one-tonne of payload.
Assembled by Erdington-based Portland Commercial Bodies, these are made of Panelite, an environmentally friendly, thermally fused material developed by Dynamic Panel Solutions to offer a high weight/strength ratio.

The firm, which has dealership sites at Blackwell, near Alfreton, Lenton in Nottingham, Etruria, Stoke-on-Trent, and in Highfield Lane, Sheffield, will continue under the Sherwood banner.
Managing Director, Helen Waterfall, will join the Guest Group as a Regional Director responsible for the four Sherwood locations.
“Guests are a well-known, well-established and respected business, who, like us, have a commitment to the very highest levels of customer service and support. “Guests are the ideal partner to help us to take the Sherwood brand forward, and I’m looking forward to working jointly with Guests to further develop our service to customers. It’s a positive step for the business and an excellent opportunity for our team of staff.”
Both Sherwood Chairman Terry Waterfall, who founded the business in 1978,and his co-shareholder Paul Hemp are retiring from Sherwood.
“I’d like to thank Paul for the tremendous support he’s given to Sherwood – his experience and knowledge of the industry and our business has been invaluable,” said Helen Waterfall.
“The business wouldn’t be here or where it is today without the dogged determination, guts and focus over the last 32 years from our founder Terry, my father, and a friend to everyone at Sherwood, and I would like to pay tribute to him.”
The acquisition of Sherwood was made by parent company Ian Guest Holdings and confirms West-Bromwich-based dealer group Guest Trucks’ position as one of the largest independently owned commercial vehicle dealer groups and the single largest Iveco distributor in the UK.
This latest acquisition (for an undisclosed sum) adds Iveco sales and service facilities in Blackwell, Nottingham, Sheffield and Stoke-on-Trent, plus access to three additional authorised repairers in Swadlincote, Newark and Doncaster. It follows an 18-month period which has already seen Guest Trucks take responsibility for additional areas covering Telford and North Wales, Leicestershire and Cambridgeshire.
It will see Guest Group’s annual turnover grow to in excess of £100 million, with employee numbers increasing from 280 to 450.
Robert Spittle, Managing Director of Truck Operations for the family-owned Guest Group said: “Sherwood Truck & Van is a highly capable and respected dealer, with a strong customer base. It will form a key part of the Guest Group and allow our customers to benefit from the natural synergies of working with one of the industry’s largest and most professional dealer groups.”
