Annual Glastontree event staged at The Orange Tree in Leicester

Mini music festival Glastontree returns to The Orange Tree in Leicester next month, raising cash for hospice charity LOROS.

It is the eighth year that the event has been held at the pub in the High Street, and this year’s line-up includes some of Leicester’s finest musical talents plus a band from further afield.

Staged on Sunday 5th August from 1pm to 1am, Glastontree has raised more than £11,000 for charity since it was first organised.

It was originally set up by Leicester musician and bar manager at The Orange Tree Andy Tomlinson, in memory of his mum who died in 2005, and has since been held in tribute to Andy, who lost his life in an accident two years later.

Live music will run from 3pm to 12pm, with the line-up featuring Leicestershire bands and musicians Hell’s Addiction, Grace Petrie, Kenworthy, The Manhattan Project, Push, Martha Bean, Skunk Boy Project, Kieran Fowkes and DJ’s Champion Sound.

Seven-piece alternative folk/pop collaborative Shy and the Fight, from the Chester and North Wales area, completes the line-up.

There will also be a charity raffle with a host of prizes donated by local firms and big drinks brands. Prizes up for grabs include local festival tickets. Carvery cobs and roasties will also be served.

“Glastontree is one of our highlights of the year and has become a regular date on Leicester’s music and entertainment calendar,” said Orange Tree general manager Jon Glover. “We’re really looking forward to it, and hope that once again our customers and the people of Leicester will support the event and help us to raise as much as possible for charity. We will be holding Glastontree in tribute to Andy, who is still sorely missed by all of us at The Orange Tree and those on the Leicester music scene.”

A wrist band for the day costs £5 and is available from The Orange Tree.

All proceeds go to LOROS, the Leicestershire and Rutland Hospice.

Orange Tree music festival raises cash for LOROS

Glastontree, the mini music festival organised by Leicester’s Orange Tree bar, has raised almost £1,300 for hospice care charity LOROS.

It was the seventh year the event had been held at the High Street pub, and takes the total collected for the charity to more than £11,000.

“More than 200 people came along to Glastontree over the course of several hours to hear some great music from local bands,” said Orange Tree general manager Jonny Glover. “We’re delighted to have raised so much money for LOROS, and would like to thank customers for attending, the musicians for taking part and all the local businesses that donated to the raffle, which made around £300.”

Part of the Leicester Fringe Festival, Glastontree featured a number of local acts including singer/guitarist Grace Petrie, Chris Warner, Gallery 47, who recently played at Scotland’s T in the Park, Produkty, Hell’s Addiction, Move and Cousin Avi.

Customers paying £5 for a wristband, plus the total raised from the raffle, which included prizes of two Strawberry Fields Festival weekend tickets, two day tickets to Leicester Racecourse, a meal for two at Ask restaurant and many other locally donated prizes, pushed the total raised to £1287.30.

Orange Tree music festival Glastontree raises cash for LOROS

Glastontree, the mini music festival organised by Leicester’s Orange Tree bar, will be raising money for LOROS hospice next month.

The line-up for the High Street venue’s seventh festival of musicians and DJs has been revealed and once again includes Grace Petrie.

The Leicester singer/guitarist has appeared at the Orange Tree event every year since it started in 2005 and this year’s performance follows her high-profile set on the Glastonbury Leftfield stage.

Part of the Leicester Fringe Festival, Glastontree’s organisers are hoping to add to the £10,000 the pub has raised so far for the Leicestershire and Rutland hospice during Glastontree events in previous years.

Acts for the Sunday August 7 event also include Tom Savage, Chris Warner, Gallery 47, who recently played at Scotland’s T in the Park, Move and Cousin Avi.

Doors open at 1pm and performances start in the pub garden at 2.30pm before moving into the bar from 8pm. All-day wristbands cost £5 and are available from the Orange Tree. There will be a charity raffle and barbecue during the day.

General manager Jonny Glover said: “Last year hundreds of people enjoyed fantastic music from local bands, solo artists and DJs.

“This year is going to be even better and is a fantastic chance for our loyal customers to help LOROS hospice.

“It really is a great way to enjoy the summer and get to see what Leicester has to offer in the way of musical talent.”

Hospice benefits from pub fund-raising events in Leicester

More than £2,000 has been collected for hospice charity LOROS by two Leicester pubs.

Annual music festival Glastontree, which was staged at The Orange Tree in High Street, raised £1,548 for the Leicestershire and Rutland hospice.

Hundreds of people enjoyed the 13-hour music extravaganza last month which featured a host of Leicester bands, DJs and solo artists, including Grace Petrie who performed at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.

The event coincided with the Summer Sundae Fringe Festival in Leicester, and The Orange Tree’s sister pub, The Lansdowne in London Road, netted £630 at its Summer Sundae Fringe Party, which is also being donated to LOROS.

“Glastontree has now raised around £10,000 for various charities since it was first held in 2005, which is fantastic news,” said Ben Hings, managing director of the Orange Tree Group.

“We’re delighted that once again this year’s event was so well supported and that we’ve collected more than £1,500 for LOROS. Add to that the £630 raised at The Lansdowne’s Summer Sundae Fringe Party and we are pleased to say that we will be donating more than £2,100 to the local hospice. We’d like to thank all our regulars, everyone who took part in Glastontree and also local shops and businesses who generously donated prizes for a raffle, which helped us to raise so much money.”

It was the sixth Glastontree event to be held by The Orange Tree.
